Mortar joint re-pointing (cement base and lime base) mortar is the material used in masonry construction which holds brick together and apart. However, mortar does not last forever. Re-pointing is a process by which approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the joints’ exterior is removed and replaced with new mortar thus giving the structure a new lease on life.
